Date: 2024-11-18

The Kwara State Government has completed the screening of 102,452 residents for hypertension and blood sugar levels, marking a significant milestone in its Project 10 Million health initiative.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, disclosed the achievement during a media briefing in Ilorin, the state capital. She commended residents for their high compliance and participation in the programme, which spanned all 16 local government areas of the state.

Dr. El-Imam praised the initiative for its role in advancing public health and underscored the administration's commitment to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all Kwarans.

The project was initiated by commissioners for health in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory Administration to screen 10 million Nigerians for blood pressure and blood sugar.

In a statement signed by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Gbenga Falade, which was released to the press on Sunday, the commissioner said the project was to test the people of the state for hypertension and blood sugar levels.

“The exercise, which commenced on October 28 and ended on November 10, 2024, recorded significant successes, thanks to the cooperation of stakeholders, including the state executive council members, the royal fathers led by the Emir of Ilorin, executive chairperson of the 16 local government areas, Office of the Head of Service, health workers, ad hoc staff, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Christian Association of Nigeria, the Muslim Society, market leaders, Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, media practitioners, World Health Organisation and other development partners in the state, among others,” she stated.

El-Imam noted that Kwara was able to screen 102,452 people across the state, thus emerging as one of the leading states to have implemented the project.

She expressed her gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his support, adding that the initiative was one of the largest health interventions targeted at adults regardless of gender in the state.

She enjoined residents to continue checking their blood pressure and sugar levels, to control the numbers and reduce mortality.
