Kwara Government Apprehends 20 Students Loitering During School Hours

Date: 2024-11-21

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has announced that 20 students were apprehended on the streets of Ilorin during school hours.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Commissioner, Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu, addressed the parents and students, emphasizing the importance of education and warning against loitering during school hours.

Hajia Modibbo Kawu urged parents to actively partner with schools and take a keen interest in their children's education to ensure they stay focused on achieving their academic goals.

She reaffirmed the state government's unwavering commitment to providing inclusive and quality education for all children, particularly those from indigent backgrounds, to help them achieve success.

In another development, the state government has expressed dissatisfaction over the recent unruly attitude exhibited by some students of Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, and Government High School, Adeta, in Ilorin metropolis.

The principals of the two post-primary institutions reported that there has been an age-long crisis between the schools, dating back almost a decade, which they have been managing.

Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu stated on Wednesday during an unscheduled visit to the schools in Ilorin to investigate the issues that triggered the unrest in the schools.

The commissioner was greatly displeased with the students' attitudes and the management of the school for not immediately notifying the Ministry.

Hajia Modibbo Kawu assured them of government intervention, as she urged the students to have a change of attitude and remain focused on their studies to have a blissful future.

She took a tour of the school and appreciated the teachers for their commitment to duty, charging them to adhere to all policies of government meant for revamping the education sector.

The commissioner further disclosed that the state government was prioritizing education to bring out the best in the learners, as an enabler for a prosperous state and nation.

She charged the students of both Government High School, Adeta, and Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, Ilorin, to reciprocate the government's gesture by avoiding any behavior that may dent the image of the state, urging them to be the pride of their families and the state at large.

The principals of Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, and Government High School, Adeta, Hajia Fausat Ishola and Mallam Waheed Issa, respectively, applauded the good work of the present administration in rewriting the story of the education sector in the state, urging the state government to come to their aid in reconstructing the perimeter fencing to prevent their students from loitering about.

On the other hand, the students, who were remorseful, promised that such illicit and barbaric attitudes would not recur.
