Kwara Govt Warns Coaching Centres Against Poaching Public School Students
The Kwara State Government has cautioned proprietors of coaching centres against enticing students away from public schools under the pretence of preparing them for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
In a statement issued by the Press Secretary of the Agency for Mass Education, Rasheedat Anigilaje, on Wednesday in Ilorin, the Executive Director of the agency, Saka Yusuf, conveyed the warning.
Mr Yusuf voiced his concern over the continued breach of regulations by certain coaching centres, despite the government's ongoing efforts to raise awareness and educate stakeholders on the matter.
“Issues of students being taken away from schools and registered as conventional students at coaching centres are unacceptable. This practice is in direct violation of the state's education ordinance,” he stated.
He cautioned that such actions could disrupt students' academic progress and jeopardize their future.
“Henceforth, coaching centres should not take students from schools and register them as conventional students. Proprietors must support, rather than undermine, the government's efforts to improve education standards in Kwara State,” Mr. Yusuf warned.
The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that education policies are strictly enforced, emphasizing that violators would face consequences.
