Kwara Govt to Set Up ATCs in Four LGAs to Boost Farming Output
The Kwara State Government has announced plans to establish Agricultural Transformation Centres (ATCs) in Kaiama, Baruten, Asa, and Ifelodun Local Government Areas as part of its ongoing agro-industrialisation programme aimed at boosting agricultural production.
Speaking during a sensitisation exercise and engagement with community stakeholders in Kaiama Local Government Area, the Coordinator of the Kwara Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Project, Engr. Dr Busari Toyin Isiaka, revealed the initiative. He noted that these centres will play a pivotal role in enhancing agricultural output and driving economic development across the state.
The Emir of Kaiama praised Governor AbdulRazaq for his efforts, stating that the establishment of these centres represents enduring legacies for the people of Kwara.
Busari noted that the motive behind the project was the government's resolve to tackling unemployment among youths, boosting economic life of women and transforming the agricultural landscape of the State.
The Coordinator, who was represented by the Project's Infrastructure Engineer, Kwara SAPZ, Engr. Dr. Ezekiel Olanrewaju Ariyo, explained that the administration of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is reshaping the agricultural narrative in the State by positioning agriculture as a business .
The Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Sheu Omar Muazu, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for harnessing the agricultural advantages of Kwara to improve the State's economy and create opportunities for employment.
The royal father added that through involvement in a number of agricultural initiatives, the Governor is setting enduring legacies for Kwarans and prayed to God to make the project a reality.
Another traditional Chief in Kaima, Alhaji Ahmed Ibn Muhammed, who was the Kiwazi of Wazibe, drew the attention of the government to the agricultural heritage of the people of Kaiama, stressing that the resources in the area makes it fit for the agro-industrialization project.
He further called on the government to fix the feeder roads in the area, emphasizing the importance of good roads to agricultural production in the area.
The occasion featured a cultural entertainment by the Kaiama Cultural Troupe.
Also in attendance were the Director, Livestock Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Ahmed Muhammed Umar, the Shetima of Kaiama, Alhaji Abdulmumeen Kazeem; Serikinoma of Kaiama, Alhaji Abdullahi Bawa; youths and women.
