The Kwara State Executive Council has approved the restructuring of government ministries and the creation of two new departments to boost administrative efficiency, streamline coordination, and align governance with the state's evolving developmental goals.

The decision was formalised at a cabinet meeting chaired by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Tuesday morning. The proposal was presented by Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed, Acting Head of Service.

One key change involves the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development , which has been separated from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. This move aims to sharpen focus on livestock farming challenges and enhance food security across all 16 local government areas of Kwara State.

The restructuring reflects a strategic effort to prioritise sector-specific interventions and accelerate growth in critical areas.

The new ministry will play a crucial role in supporting farmers, herders, processors, and distributors across the livestock value chain, according to the memorandum.

The council approved a proposal to carve out the Ministry of Transportation from the Ministry of Works and Transport.

This restructuring is designed to establish a more effective and well-organized transportation management system, ensuring seamless mobility for residents and optimizing the state's expanding infrastructure network, according to the memorandum.

The council approved for the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) to be under the Ministry of Transportation instead of the Ministry of Works.

With these adjustments, Kwara State now has 22 ministries, up from 20, marking another step in the Governor AbdulRazaq-led administration's efforts to strengthen governance and streamline public service delivery.
