Residents Hail Improved Water Supply as Flower Garden and Pakata Waterway Repairs Near Completion

Date: 2025-03-16

The Kwara State Ministry of Water Resources recently conducted inspections of several water-fetching points across parts of the Ilorin metropolis, as repair and maintenance works on key waterways—including Flower Garden and Pakata—approach completion. Residents praised the improved water supply in areas such as Adeta, Sakele, Pakata, Ita-merin, Oloje, Alore, Abayawo, Okelele, and Ayegbami over the past few days.

Led by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, the team visited ongoing repair sites to gather firsthand updates on progress. These efforts aim to deepen water distribution across the city, ensuring consistent access for communities.

Hon. Lade urged residents to take responsibility for protecting the water-fetching points and pipelines in their neighborhoods from vandalism, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining these essential facilities. The initiative reflects the state government's commitment to addressing water supply challenges and enhancing service delivery in urban areas.

He added that residents should not hesitate to call the attention of the Ministry, including the State Water Corporation, to leaking pipes to avoid wastage.

Lade assured the communities that the government is committed to making water available to the people of the state.

A testament to this is the ongoing repair of waterways like the Flower Garden and Pakata waterways, which are nearing completion, he added.

"When completed, the Flower Garden waterways will supply water to areas like Sabo-Oke, Amilengbe, Maraba, Adualere, Mubo, and Ipata, where there are challenges of water at the moment." he said.

"Also, communities like Abeemi, Omoda, Ile Ara-Oyo, Masingba, Ajikobi, Okekere, Popo-Igbona, Ita-Ogunbo, Ita-Kudimo, Ode Alfa Nda and Agbaji, among others, will begin to enjoy water supply upon completion of the repair of Pakata waterways."

The residents commended the efforts of the government, urging it to do more.

At some parts of Isale-Aluko community, where the repair of leaking water pipes is ongoing, the residents lauded the government for its swift action and pledged to protect the facilities from vandalism.
