Kwara Govt Revokes All 2024 Billboard Licenses Amid Urban Renewal Drive
The Kwara State Government has announced the immediate revocation of all 2024 signage and billboard licenses statewide, following an earlier directive suspending such permits. The government warned that identification efforts are ongoing, with enforcement actions to remove unauthorised billboards, posters, and light pole banners set to begin this week.
This development was outlined in a statement issued today from the office of the Chairman of the Kwara State Taskforce Committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, who also serves as the Commissioner for Communications.
The statement explained that the revocation is essential to facilitate the clearance of improperly erected advertising materials in Ilorin and other urban areas. This move aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's Urban Renewal Programme, which seeks to transform Kwara into a modern, aesthetically pleasing state while promoting environmental cleanliness and safety.
According to the statement, no new registrations or renewals of signages and billboard licenses will be processed until further notice.
"This temporary measure will allow the state to finalize a new regulatory framework for outdoor advertising, the statement added."
It thereafter reiterated further that, identifications of billboards are already ongoing, therefore called on owners of unidentified boards across the entire state, to remove them with immediate effect, as Government's Taskforce is currently identifying non compliant structures adding that, enforcement will commence this week.
