Date: 2025-04-13

Christians in Ilorin, Kwara State, marked Palm Sunday yesterday, commemorating the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem over 2,000 years ago.

Large crowds of Christian faithful gathered to participate in Palm Sunday processions. The main procession began at Saint Barnabas Cathedral, Sabo Oke, Ilorin, and lasted over four hours. It wound through Murtala Mohammed Road, Maraba, Amilegbe, Ipata, Opo-Malu, parts of Emir's Road, Taiwo Road, Unity Road, the Post Office area, and concluded at the starting point for a final benediction.

A second procession started at First Baptist Church, Surulere, Ilorin, proceeding through the State General Hospital, Upper Taiwo Road, and joining other worshippers at Unity Junction before continuing to Saint Barnabas Cathedral.

Participants carried palm fronds, singing, dancing, and shouting “Hosannah” in joyful celebration of Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

The chairman of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Bishop Sunday Adewole called on Christians to be humble, embrace peace and love themselves and their neighbours as demonstrated by Jesus Christ.

Adewole urged Nigerians to be alive to their responsibilities and renew their faith to serve God wholeheartedly.
