Date: 2013-02-05

A 33-year-old woman, Omolara Solomon, who allegedly made a false allegation against a police officer, has been charge before a magistrate court sitting in Ilorin.

The accused of Sango Area, Ilorin, was arraigned on a one-count charge of defamation, which contradicts Section 392 of Penal Code Law.

Trouble began for the accused following a complaint at 'E' Division Police Station, Kulende, Ilorin, by Corporal Oluyede Tolani attached to crime bit at the Division that the accused defamed her character.

According to the officer, she was assigned to investigate a case of disturbance of public peace which involved the accused and three other children, while the accused alleged her of drinking and collecting money from the other party when she went to visit the scene of the crime.

The officer alleged further that the accused said that she intentionally change the charge due to the money she collected from the other party.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted so far revealed that the accused falsefully alleged the Investigation Police Officer.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Zacchaeus Folorunsho, who informed the court that investigation into the matter was yet to be completed objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand her in prison yard, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The defence counsel, Barrister A.S. Awe, who prayed the court to admit the accused to bail submitted that the alleged offence for which the accused was brought before the court was ordinarily bailable.
