Over 85 Legislative Actions in Two Years: Kwara's House of Assembly Commemorates Milestone

Date: 2025-06-19

The 10th Legislature of the Kwara State House of Assembly has marked its two-year anniversary, having considered 25 bills and over 60 motions since its inception - legislation with measurable positive impacts on the lives of residents.

Speaker of the House, Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, confirmed the milestone during a plenary session held to commemorate the event. He stated that the legislature has upheld key democratic principles of transparency, equity, and accountability while fulfilling its constitutional mandate.

The speaker highlighted that the bills and motions address critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education, underscoring the assembly's focus on transformative governance. He further pledged continued collaboration with the executive arm to ensure laws are implemented for the benefit of Kwara citizens.

"Records are there to show the gains of our purposeful legislation, which have greatly impacted positively the lives of our people within a spate of two years through concerted executive implementations.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the 10th Assembly has so far considered 25 bills, 62 motions, 16 matters of general and urgent public importance and 12 reports arising from various petitions received by the House," the Speaker stated.

"The significance of this anniversary, therefore, lies in the overall appraisal of our past legislative activities, which, expectantly, should equip us towards a better and seamless legislative chapter that we are about to open with more vigour, confidence and tenacity," he said.

The Speaker commended his colleagues for their various people-orientated projects and activities in fulfilment of the campaign promises made to Kwarans.

He called on them to be more conscious of the fact that their relevance in society would largely depend on the impeccable impact they make in improving the socio-economic status of their constituents.

Danladi-Salihu also appreciated the Governor of the State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, for the prompt attention given to resolutions of the House anytime they are forwarded and for allowing the independence of the three arms of government to be firmly rooted in the state, which he noted are yielding positive results.

"The cordial relationship that exists between the arms of the government is really paying off in the state. We therefore look forward to more of this hand of fellowship from the governor in the coming legislative years," the Speaker stated

The Speaker also gave kudos to the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Olayiwola Kareem, and other management and staff of the Assembly for their commitment and dedication to work, which he noted contributed to the success of the Tenth Legislature.

He also thanked other stakeholders, including the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prince Sunday Fagbemi; other Excos, stalwarts and members of the APC; the Commissioner of Police; other heads and personnel of military and paramilitary agencies in the state; and the members of the fourth estate of the realm for their support and the wide coverage of the activities of the House and looked forward to more cordial relationships.
