KWEPA Arrests Individuals for Impersonation and Unlawful Use of Official Documents

Date: 2025-11-03

The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has arrested several individuals for impersonating the agency and unlawfully using its official documents.

The suspects were apprehended while using falsified KWEPA materials to deceive unsuspecting members of the public and carry out illegal activities under the guise of representing the agency, according to a statement issued on Saturday in Ilorin by the agency's spokesman, Aliyu Jamiu Amode.

Amode confirmed the handover: "Following their arrest, the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further interrogation and investigation." He added that the case is currently being handled by the appropriate authorities to ensure justice is served and that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of KWEPA, Jide Aina, strongly condemned the act, describing it as a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image and integrity of the agency.

He said the agency operates under strict environmental regulations and transparency, warning that anyone found impersonating the agency or using its documents illegally would be prosecuted without hesitation.

Aina urged members of the public, corporate organisations, and community leaders to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals claiming to represent KWEPA without proper identification.

He further advised residents to verify any official correspondence directly with the agency to avoid falling victim to fraudulent practices.

He reaffirmed KWEPA's commitment to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment across Kwara State, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to upholding environmental standards and protecting government institutions from impostors and saboteurs.

The agency assured the public of its unwavering dedication to transparency, accountability, and lawful operations throughout the state.
