Saraki Dynasty Gathers: Bukola Saraki Leads 13th Remembrance Prayer for Late Father Olusola Saraki in Ilorin

Date: 2025-11-15

Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Friday led family members, political associates, and supporters in Ilorin to mark the 13th remembrance prayers of his late father and Second Republic political titan, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki.

The prayer session, held at the Iloffa GRA residence of the late strongman of Kwara politics, drew key figures across the state's political landscape, further underscoring the enduring influence of the Saraki dynasty.

The ceremony was led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh (Dr) Muhammad Solih, supported by other prominent Islamic scholars.

The clerics offered special prayers and recitations from the Holy Qur'an for the repose of the elder statesman, whom the Chief Imam described as "a man who lived a life of kindness, generosity, and service to humanity."

In an emotional tribute, Saraki praised his late father's legacy and prayed for divine mercy upon his soul. He stated: "Thirteen years have passed since my father, Oloye, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, passed away."

"Today, as we remember his life and enduring legacy, I pray that Almighty Allah continues to grant him a place among the righteous in Aljannah Firdaus," he said.

Saraki also expressed gratitude to clerics, political associates, friends and supporters who participated in the remembrance prayer.

"We are deeply grateful to all our friends, well-wishers, and religious leaders who joined us for the 13th anniversary remembrance prayers held today in Ilorin and led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin," he added.

The event attracted an array of Peoples Democratic Party stalwarts, including governorship hopefuls Rt. Hon. Ahmad Ali, Kale Kawu and Ladi Hassan, among others, who came to honour the late kingmaker.

The large turnout reflects the lasting political structures and goodwill built by the late Olusola Saraki, who remained a dominant force in Kwara politics for over four decades.

The late Oloye, fondly called the "Strongman of Kwara Politics," died on 14 November 2012, leaving behind a legacy of grassroots mobilisation, philanthropy and political mentorship that continues to shape the state's political landscape.
