Kwara United Beat Niger Tornadoes 2-0 in Dominant NPFL Display

Date: 2025-12-08

Kwara United displayed renewed confidence and cohesion on Sunday as they returned to winning ways with a convincing 2-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes in their NPFL Matchday 16 clash at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin.

Right from the kick-off, the 'Harmony Boys' showed intensity and intent. Just three minutes in, the hosts almost broke the deadlock when a long throw-in from Seun Ogunribide was flicked towards the goal, seemingly crossing the line before being cleared.

With no signal from the linesman, play continued but the early warning sign set the tone for a dominant Kwara United performance.

Their pressure soon paid dividends. In the 15th minute, Babatunde Bright finished off a well-worked team move to hand Kwara United a deserved lead.

The trio of Philip Ozor, Victor Adeoye, and Toheeb Gidado continued to torment the Tornadoes' backline, dictating play and controlling the match's tempo.

The second goal arrived in the 37th minute, again courtesy of Ogunribide's lethal long throws. His powerful delivery caused confusion in the Niger Tornadoes' defence and was deflected into the net, doubling the advantage and sparking wild celebrations in the stands.

Moments before the interval, Gidado nearly added a spectacular third, but his dazzling solo run ended with a shot that crashed against the crossbar.

Kwara United maintained their dominance in the second half. Junior Aimufua had two clear chances to extend the lead but couldn't apply the finishing touch.

Despite multiple tactical changes by the coaching crew, the Harmony Boys continued to dictate proceedings, though further goals eluded them.

The victory is particularly significant as it ends a three-year home winless streak against the Ikon Allah Boys an important psychological boost as Kwara United look to regain momentum in the league.

After the match, Coach Ashifat Suleiman praised his team's performance and mentality, noting that the return of previously injured players added balance and strength to the squad.

For his energetic display, creativity, and relentless pressure on the opposition, Toheeb Gidado was named the Cyteck and Ambassador Yahaya Seriki Man of the Match.
