FG Confirms Offa Explosions Caused by Debris from Anti-ISIS Military Strikes

Date: 2025-12-26

Explosions rocked parts of Offa late on Christmas night, damaging several buildings and causing widespread panic. The incident occurred around midnight on December 25, 2025, specifically affecting the Yidi (Eid) praying ground area and the vicinity of Solid Worth Hotel along the Offa-Ijagbo road.

The Federal Government has since confirmed that the explosions were caused by debris from precision-guided munitions used during a joint Nigeria-United States military operation against ISIS terrorists in Sokoto State.

According to a statement by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the strikes were executed using MQ-9 Reaper drones and Tomahawk missiles targeting terrorist enclaves in the Bauni forest. Debris from these munitions mistakenly fell in Offa, hundreds of kilometres from the target site.

While no deaths were officially reported, at least five people, including a couple and their young daughter, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

Affected residents reported collapsed walls, blown-off roofs, and destroyed shops. Security agencies, including the police anti-bomb unit, have cordoned off the sites and evacuated the ordnance fragments.
