Kwara APC Support Group Urges Party to Zone Edu/Moro/Patigi Reps Seat to Moro Ahead of 2027

Date: 2026-01-06

A support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has appealed to the party leadership and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to concede the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives to Moro Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, known as the Edu APC Grassroots Mobilisation Movement, made the call on Sunday during a stakeholders' meeting held in Ilorin.

Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, the group's leader, Alhaji Mohammed Alhassan, alleged that Moro LGA has remained marginalised since the return to democratic governance in 1999, adding that the House of Representatives seat has rotated only between Edu and Patigi local government areas for almost 28 years.

"As we steadily approach 2027, our political environment continues to evolve through dialogue and reflection. However, one reality remains clear: since the beginning of the Fourth Republic, representation at the federal level has rotated only between Edu and Patigi LGAs, while Moro has never had the opportunity," Alhassan said.

He described the demand as a matter of justice, fairness, and equity, stressing that conceding the seat to Moro would promote unity and peaceful coexistence within the constituency.

"For the sake of justice, fairness, unity, peace and collective progress of our people, it is only right and morally sound that Moro LGA will be given due consideration and broad support in 2027," he added.

Alhassan also cautioned against a winner-takes-all approach to democracy, noting that inclusiveness and mutual respect were essential to sustaining political harmony among the three local governments.

"Democracy should never be reduced to a winner-takes-all system. Our long-standing relationship among Edu, Moro, and Patigi must be preserved and strengthened for future generations," he said.

The APC chieftain appealed directly to Governor AbdulRazaq and party leaders across the constituency to rally behind the demand, urging them to support Moro LGA for the House of Representatives seat in the interest of balance and equity.

He acknowledged that the position might be uncomfortable for some interests but insisted it was guided by conscience and shared values.

"Our advocacy is not an act of hostility, but of responsibility and faith. Both major religions practised in our constituency preach fairness, love, and consideration for the common good," Alhassan stressed.

Highlighting the demographic composition of Moro LGA, he maintained that the area, which falls under the Ilorin Emirate, is ethnically diverse, comprising Yorubas, Nupes, Hausas, Fulanis, and other groups.

"This diversity is our strength and places on us a higher responsibility to promote inclusiveness and shared ownership of power," he added.

Alhassan further argued that political balance would be strengthened if Moro produced the House of Representatives member in 2027, especially as the constituency was expected to produce a senator from Patigi LGA under an existing political arrangement.

He also urged political stakeholders in Moro to set aside internal divisions and present a united front.

"We appeal to our brothers and sisters in Moro LGA to close ranks and speak with one voice. Unity will be our greatest strength. Moro must present a credible, competent, and widely acceptable candidate with integrity and commitment to grassroots development," he insisted.
