Kwara Road Revolution: Governor AbdulRazaq's Road Projects Surpass Saraki's Era, Says SSA Abdullateef

Date: 2026-01-15

The Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Communications, Ibraheem Abdullateef, has stated that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has outperformed his predecessors in road construction, building more roads in six years than previous administrations including that of Dr. Bukola Saraki did in approximately 25 years.

Speaking on the radio programme Kwara Today on Wednesday, Abdullateef described the Governor as a "record breaker" whose administration is intentionally reshaping the state's economic future through large-scale infrastructural investment. He noted that these projects are designed to shed Kwara's image as a "civil servant state" and transform it into a hub for innovation, technology, creativity, and tourism in North Central Nigeria.

Abdullateef argued that the lack of basic amenities had previously stunted the state's growth for decades. He emphasized that infrastructure particularly road networks, water, and electricity is the backbone of industrial growth and commercial activity.

"The governor wanted to change the toga of a civil servant state and make Kwara the go-to state in North Central Nigeria," Abdullateef said. He maintained that the current administration's focus on these essential facilities is a deliberate strategy to attract investment and foster long-term economic development.

Highlighting road construction as a major achievement, Abdullateef said that between 1995 and 2019, previous administrations completed only 605 kilometres of state and federal roads in Kwara.

"In contrast, from 2019 to 2025, Governor AbdulRazaq's administration has completed 302 kilometres of roads, with another 275 kilometres ongoing. That totals 577 kilometres in six years almost matching what was achieved in 25 years," he said.

He added that these figures exclude 294 kilometres of federal roads being reconstructed under the tax credit scheme, facilitated by the governor.

"This clearly shows that this administration has set a new standard in road infrastructure development in Kwara State," Abdullateef said.
