ADC Holds Membership Drive in Ilorin Ahead of 2027 Elections

Date: 2026-03-11

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday organised a sensitisation and membership drive ahead of the 2027 general elections to mobilise voters and strengthen the party's presence in the state.

Addressing party supporters on the sidelines of his declaration as an ADC governorship aspirant, Dr Abdulmumin Ajia said the membership drive was aimed at creating a credible alternative for the electorate in the forthcoming elections.

The sensitisation and membership exercise, led by Ajia, a professor of Business Administration at Lincoln University in the United States, was taken to major locations across the Ilorin metropolis.

Ajia, who was also a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State in 2019, promised that if given the opportunity to lead the state, his administration would introduce digital governance that allows every literate citizen to access government services through the internet.

"Our government will move beyond merely publishing budgets to ensuring that citizens can track projects, contracts, and outcomes," he said.

He added that the philosophy of his government would centre on what he described as "systems repair" in Kwara State.

Delivering his declaration address titled "Systems First: A New Direction for Kwara," Ajia argued that the core challenge facing governance in Nigeria is not the failure of citizens but the failure of systems.

"People do not fail first. Systems fail first," Ajia said. "When systems work, people rise. When systems collapse, people adapt just to survive."

He emphasised that his political approach would prioritise governance systems that deliver consistent results rather than personality-driven politics or symbolic projects.

Ajia also outlined a four-pillar framework that would guide his political agenda within the ADC, including opportunity creation, systems building, credible jobs, and an enterprise pipeline that rewards effort and reduces obstacles for small businesses.

He further promised to improve reliability in healthcare, education, and other public services through process reforms and stronger frontline accountability.

Ajia described his declaration as an invitation to a broad coalition of citizens.

"If we want a different Kwara, we must build politics differently," he said.

He called on professionals, youth leaders, women leaders, Kwarans in the diaspora, traditional institutions, and civil society actors to participate in building what he described as a governance culture based on systems design rather than political theatrics.

Addressing public scepticism, Ajia acknowledged the widespread distrust of political actors amongst Nigerians and urged citizens to judge politicians not by excitement but by discipline and clarity.

He urged Kwarans to "judge us by the seriousness of the framework we are proposing and the quality of the team that emerges around it."
