Kwara Police Intercept Ammunition Hidden in Bag of Garri, Arrest Multiple Suspects

Date: 2026-04-21

The Kwara State Police Command says it has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against crime, including the interception of ammunition concealed in a bag of garri and the arrest of several suspects across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Ilorin on Friday, attributing the successes to intelligence-led policing and collaboration with other security agencies.

He said one of the operations took place on April 10 along Ajase-Ipo Road, where operatives intercepted an unregistered Toyota Previa vehicle entering the state from Kogi. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 98 rounds of live ammunition hidden inside a bag of garri.

According to him, the concealment appeared to be an attempt to evade detection, adding that some suspects have been linked to the operation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others.

In a separate development, the police also confirmed the arrest of suspects in connection with a shop-breaking incident in the Odota area of Ilorin, where goods worth about N2.5 million were reported stolen. Items linked to the case were recovered, and investigations are ongoing.

Similarly, police operatives arrested two suspects in Ganmo area following a distress call, recovering a locally fabricated firearm and a live cartridge during the operation.

The command also said a 29-year-old suspect was intercepted during a routine patrol along the Oroago axis. Items recovered from him included mobile phones, phone chargers, a POS machine and other personal effects. He is currently under investigation.

In another case, the police confirmed the arrest of a suspect in Kaiama over unlawful possession of human remains. The matter has been charged to court in line with relevant laws.

Reaffirming the command's commitment to public safety, the Commissioner said the police would continue efforts to prevent and respond to crime across the state.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information, noting that security is a collective responsibility.
