39 EMIS Officers Undergo Digital Training as Kwara Strengthens School Census Capacity

Date: 2026-04-22

The Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, has emphasised the critical role of credible data in designing effective education interventions.

Olohungbebe made the remarks on Monday whilst attending the ongoing State-LGA training on the Digital EMIS Platform, Annual School Census (ASC) Tool, Learner Registry, and Safe School Tool in Kwara State.

The strategic three-day capacity-building programme, organised by the Federal Ministry of Education through the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) and the National Education Data Initiative (NEDI), is aimed at strengthening the state's education system through improved data management.

"Serious policymakers do not gamble with data when designing interventions," Olohungbebe stated, adding that the training speaks directly to the heart of effective governance.

He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Honourable Minister for Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and the leadership of NEDI for their foresight and sustained commitment to strengthening the education system.

The training, which is holding from 20th to 22nd April 2026 at E-Phoenix Hotels, Ilorin, has brought together 39 EMIS Officers drawn from key institutions, including the Ministry departments, SUBEB, TESCOM, LGEAs, SAME, and the Arabic Education Board.

According to Olohungbebe, the engagement is rich, focused, and forward-looking, with the clear goal of deepening technical capacity on the Digital National EMIS (DNEMIS) platform for the 2025/2026 Annual School Census and learner data management.

The commissioner stressed that when data is accurate, decisions are smarter, resources are better allocated, and outcomes improve.

"Kwara is aligning with global best practices building a system where evidence, not assumption, drives action," he said.
