Kwara Hospitals Management Board, Police Strengthen Collaboration on Healthcare Security

Date: 2026-04-25

The management of the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board (KWHMB), led by Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, held a strategic capacity-building engagement with the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo and senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force (Kwara State Command) to strengthen collaboration on hospital security, emergency response, and medico-legal case management.

The meeting focused on improving coordination in the management of emergencies such as gunshot wounds, violence-related injuries, road traffic accidents, rape, domestic violence, and other critical cases, as well as ensuring proper documentation and reporting of medico-legal matters. It also emphasized the need to enhance security systems within healthcare facilities across the state.

A key highlight of the engagement was the Police Commissioner's emphasis that the preservation of human life must always take precedence in all emergency situations, while documentation and reporting should follow immediately after patients have been stabilized.

The CP stated that, "saving lives must always come first in every emergency situation, while proper reporting should follow immediately after stabilization of the patient."

Both institutions also agreed on the development of a standardized reporting form to be designed by KW-HMB and presented to the Police Command for review and adoption. This initiative is aimed at strengthening prompt reporting, improving documentation accuracy, and enhancing coordination in medico-legal case management.

The Executive Secretary added that the security insights gained from the engagement would be integrated into staff training across all hospitals, stating that this would help standardize communication and response protocols between healthcare facilities and the Police, ensuring faster coordination and more effective handling of emergency and medico-legal cases across Kwara State.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command's commitment to sustained collaboration with the Board, while Dr. Malik reiterated KW-HMB's commitment to safer, more coordinated, and efficient healthcare delivery across the state.
