The incident involved a storey building comprising about eight rooms, out of which one room was affected by the fire.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials within the affected room.
Through the swift intervention and professionalism of the firefighters, the fire was quickly contained, thereby preventing escalation that could have resulted in extensive destruction to the entire building and surrounding properties.
Members of the community commended the prompt response and excellent efforts of the firefighters, noting that the Fire Service was alerted on time, arrived promptly, and successfully curtailed the fire at its early stage before it escalated.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, used the opportunity to enlighten members of the public on the importance of prioritising early emergency calls to the Fire Service whenever a fire outbreak occurs. CFS Alabi Muhammed further advised residents to immediately contact the Fire Service at the incipient stage of any fire outbreak, noting that timely reporting significantly increases the chances of saving lives and property while reducing the magnitude of destruction.
The Kwara State Fire Service remains committed to safeguarding lives and property through prompt emergency response and continuous public fire safety awareness.
