Kwara Begins Development of Digital Health Roadmap to Improve Healthcare Delivery

Date: 2026-05-20

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through digital innovation with the commencement of a three-day workshop on the development of a state-specific implementation roadmap for the National Digital Health Initiative.

The workshop, held at Sinclaire Hotel, brought together stakeholders, technical experts, programme managers, implementing partners and representatives of relevant institutions in the health sector.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Ilorin, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Taoheed Abdullahi, who represented the Commissioner for Health, Amina Ahmed El-Imam, described the workshop as a strategic and timely intervention aimed at repositioning the state's healthcare system through effective digital transformation.

According to the commissioner, the initiative reflects the government's commitment to improving health outcomes through strategic planning, collaboration and evidence-based implementation.

She explained that the workshop was not merely a technical exercise but a critical process that would help translate national health policies and priorities into practical actions tailored to the realities and healthcare needs of Kwara State.

El-Imam stated that the implementation roadmap would provide a clear direction for coordinated execution of digital health initiatives, improved accountability, efficient resource mobilisation and measurable impact across the healthcare sector.

She noted that the healthcare sector continues to evolve rapidly with increasing demands for efficiency, resilience, equity and sustainable service delivery, stressing that digitalisation remains key to achieving Universal Health Coverage and expanding access to quality healthcare services.

The commissioner urged participants to ensure the roadmap is realistic, inclusive, cost-effective and aligned with national priorities as well as the peculiar healthcare needs of the state.

She also commended development partners and stakeholders for their technical and financial support towards strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.

In her presentation, the Focal Person for the National Digital Health Initiative, Kudirat Lambe, said the objectives of the workshop include reviewing existing state initiatives, frameworks and guidelines.

She added that the workshop would assess Kwara State's digital health landscape, infrastructure and maturity level while engaging stakeholders in co-creating a practical four-year implementation roadmap for the state.

According to her, the roadmap would ensure coordinated implementation, resource mobilisation and measurable impact within the health sector.

Also speaking, the Director of Finance and Supply in the ministry, Maryam Ishola, urged stakeholders and development partners to make meaningful contributions towards developing a workable implementation plan capable of delivering impactful results.

She expressed optimism that the workshop would strengthen digital healthcare implementation and improve efficient healthcare service delivery across the state.
