Date: 2026-06-23

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining healthcare programmes and strengthening partnerships with development agencies.

This resolution follows an official visit by the Executive Director of the Global Fund, Dr Peter Sands, and a delegation of international health experts to the state.

Details of the visit were disclosed in a post shared on the official Facebook page of the Kwara State Ministry of Health and sighted by Arewa PUNCH on Thursday. The delegation visited Kwara as part of efforts to deepen collaboration, assess ongoing health interventions, and explore opportunities for enhancing healthcare delivery across the state.

The report disclosed that the team was received by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina El-Imam, who welcomed the visitors and led them on a tour of selected health facilities and intervention sites to showcase the state's achievements in healthcare delivery and health system strengthening.

During the visit, the delegation was hosted by the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was represented by his Deputy, Elder Kayode Alabi.

Speaking during the engagement, stakeholders highlighted the state government's continued efforts to improve access to quality healthcare services for residents.

They noted, "The state remains committed to improving access to quality healthcare through investments in infrastructure, human resources, medical equipment, and innovative health programmes aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents."

The stakeholders also stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the health sector.

"Efforts are being intensified to ensure that healthcare services remain accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the people," they added.

The statement pointed out that discussions during the meeting focused on strategic partnerships, healthcare financing, disease control initiatives, and measures to sustain health programmes supported by development partners.

The stakeholders underscored the value of collaboration between the state government and international organisations in tackling public health challenges.

"Partnerships with development agencies remain critical to strengthening the healthcare system and achieving improved health outcomes across the state," they noted.

Dr Sands and members of his delegation commended the progress recorded in Kwara's health sector, describing the visit as an opportunity to further strengthen existing partnerships.

"The visit provides an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and assess ongoing health interventions in the state," the delegation stated.

They also acknowledged the strides made by the state government in healthcare delivery and health system strengthening.

"The progress recorded in healthcare delivery reflects the impact of sustained investments and collaboration among key stakeholders," the visitors remarked.

The Ministry of Health explained that the visit further underscored Kwara State's growing reputation as a destination for impactful health interventions.

"It also reflects the strong collaboration between the state government, the Global Fund, and other international partners working towards achieving better health outcomes for all," the ministry emphasised.
