Date: 2026-07-22

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has disclosed that it handled more than 100 cases involving rape, domestic violence, child abuse and other gender-related offences between January and June 2026.

The State Commandant, Abbas Nda-Mohammed, made the disclosure on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Ilorin, describing the feat as a significant milestone in the command’s efforts to combat gender-based violence and protect vulnerable members of society.

According to him, the command also secured a life imprisonment sentence against a convicted sexual offender during the period under review, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.

Nda-Mohammed said the command’s Gender Unit recorded 36 cases of domestic violence, with 12 currently undergoing mediation.

He added that 19 child custody disputes were reported, out of which 15 have been resolved, while four cases remain pending.

The commandant further disclosed that the NSCDC handled 38 cases of child abandonment, with six successfully resolved, while investigations and welfare interventions are ongoing in the remaining cases.

He also revealed that nine abduction cases were reported within the six-month period, noting that four victims have been reunited with their families through the intervention of the corps.

According to him, eight cases involving rape, sexual assault and child molestation are currently before competent courts for prosecution.

Nda-Mohammed assured residents that the command remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of gender-based violence face the full weight of the law.

He also urged members of the public to promptly report incidents of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual offences and other forms of gender-based violence to the NSCDC to enable swift intervention and protection for victims.
