No More G1 or G2: Saraki Welcomes Mustapha, Kolo into Kwara PDP

Date: 2026-08-27

Former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has hosted the Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, and the PDP Kwara North Senatorial candidate, Dr Baba Giya Kolo, alongside their supporters at his residence in Ilorin.

Saraki welcomed Mustapha, who recently resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as Kolo, describing their decision to join the party as a courageous step towards rebuilding and advancing Kwara State.

According to Saraki's Press Officer on Local Matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, the former Senate President appreciated the two leaders and their supporters for their commitment, while urging PDP members across the state to embrace one another and work together as one family.

He called on members to put past divisions behind them and accommodate one another across wards and local government areas.

"There is no more G1 or G2; today, we belong to one big family and should operate as such," Saraki said.

In a light-hearted remark, Saraki noted that Mustapha's ability to recognise members of the PDP structure by their faces and names demonstrated that he had a good history with the party's grassroots structure.

He urged PDP members and candidates to remain focused on the 2027 elections, describing the APC-led administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the common political opponent the party must collectively challenge.

Saraki also stressed the importance of power-sharing and inclusive governance, charging PDP candidates to remember the sacrifices of the people and ensure that the benefits of democracy reach all sections of society if elected.

In his remarks, Senator Mustapha expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership under Saraki, the State Working Committee led by Hon. Issa Adamu Bawa, and party elders across the state for the warm reception extended to him and his supporters.

Mustapha reaffirmed his readiness to work with the PDP and its members to challenge the current political order in Kwara, describing the situation under the present administration as what he called "the dictatorship of a monster who believes Kwara is his personal property estate."
