Kwara to Host IPI Nigeria 2026 AGM, Conference in Ilorin

Date: 2026-09-04

Kwara State is set to host the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Conference of the Nigerian Chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI) in Ilorin, the state capital, in December.

The event will bring together journalists, media executives and other stakeholders in the Nigerian media industry from across the country.

The gathering will mark the first time the IPI Nigeria AGM will be held outside Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

A former Kwara State Commissioner for Information and member of the IPI Executive Board, representing Nigeria and Africa in Vienna, Austria, disclosed this at the monthly meeting of the National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ), Kwara State chapter, held at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin.

The former commissioner, who is also Chairman of the Editorial Board of The Herald Newspapers and Oloriewe of Oroland, said the conference would attract media professionals and other industry stakeholders from different parts of Nigeria to Kwara.

He described the event as a significant opportunity for the state to showcase its hospitality, cultural heritage and developmental potential to a national audience.

Beyond the forthcoming conference, Adedoyin urged journalists in Kwara to uphold the ethics of the profession and remain committed to factual, balanced and responsible reporting.

He cautioned media practitioners against sensationalism, fake news and reports capable of unnecessarily heating up the political atmosphere in the state.

Adedoyin also advised journalists to pay adequate attention to the activities, programmes and achievements of political actors and public officials, rather than focusing solely on political controversies.

"Politicians should tell us what they want to do or what they plan to do better if they are elected into public office.

"We must continue to be active and exercise our professional right by reporting the truth and avoiding false publications as veterans and professionals.

"Let us strive to be professional in our practice and attitude because facts are the bedrock of professional journalism anywhere in the world.

"We should pay attention to reporting on politicians who have worked and served their communities sincerely."

Adedoyin's comments came as Kwara prepares to welcome media professionals from across the country for the landmark IPI Nigeria AGM and Conference in December.
