Hon. David Oluwaseun Ogunniyi, popularly known as "Adato", has been reported as the All Progressives Congress's new deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Kwara State.

If formally confirmed, Ogunniyi will run alongside the APC governorship candidate and Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu. He would replace Bello Mubarak Salau, whose name appeared as Danladi-Salihu' s running mate on the list the Independent National Electoral Commission earlier published.

Born on July 24, 1977, Ogunniyi is a Christian from Ojomu Doyin Compound in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State. He currently represents the Balogun/Ojomu Constituency of Offa in the Kwara State House of Assembly, having been elected on the APC platform in 2023.

Ogunniyi holds a Higher National Diploma in Computer Science from Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin; a Bachelor of Science degree in Policy and Strategic Studies from Covenant University, Ota; and a Master' s degree in Conflict, Peace and Strategic Studies from Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti.

He is also an alumnus of the Advanced Management Programme of Lagos Business School and holds a postgraduate diploma in Credit Management from the London Postgraduate Credit Management College in the United Kingdom.

Before entering active politics, Ogunniyi built a career in the private sector, holding senior management positions in multinational organisations. His official legislative biography says he rose to Country Managing Director and West Africa Regional Leader at an American multinational conglomerate. Other reports identify the company as DuPont Nigeria.

His legislative committee responsibilities have covered health, energy, education and human-capital development, youth, sports and information.

Beyond politics, Ogunniyi has participated in development initiatives in Offa. He served as Secretary of the Offa Economic Development Committee, which developed the Offa 10-Year Development Plan covering 2022 to 2032. He is also associated with the Offa Descendants' Union and the Offa Metropolitan Club.

Politically, his reported selection gives the APC ticket both geographical and religious balance. It pairs Danladi-Salihu, a Muslim from Kwara North, with Ogunniyi, a Christian from Offa in Kwara South. It also elevates a first-term state legislator with substantial private-sector and community-development experience to the statewide contest.

As of this report, several political and community groups have congratulated Ogunniyi on his reported emergence. However, the Kwara State APC has yet to release its promised formal statement confirming the substitution, while INEC has not publicly displayed an updated candidate list reflecting the reported change.
