The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Prince Omar Bolaji Gambari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari's Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, as Director-General of its campaign organisation for the 2027 governorship election.

Gambari will coordinate the campaign structure of the party's governorship candidate, Suleiman Bolakale Kawu.

His appointment was announced following an expanded meeting of the party leadership presided over by the state chairman, Isa Bawa Adamu.

In a statement on Wednesday, PDP state publicity secretary, Olusegun Adewara, said Gambari was among the leading aspirants who contested the PDP's 2026 governorship primary, which was eventually won by Kawu.

There was speculation after the primary over his alleged dissatisfaction with the exercise, a position later dismissed.

Rather than leaving the party after the primary, he remained involved in its political activities.

The PDP said his experience in international law, finance and real estate among others would be useful in coordinating a campaign involving different sections of the state, saying the appointment represents another step in its preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
