2013 WAEC : Kwara Govt. Warns Students Against Exams Malpractice

Date: 2013-03-12

Alhaji Saka Onimago, Kwara Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, on Monday warned schools' authorities to be wary of indolent candidates bent on perpetrating malpractice during the 2013 WAEC examinations.

Onimago gave the warning in Ilorin while briefing schools' principals on the 2013 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) organised by WAEC in Ilorin.

He charged the stakeholders to be mindful of some candidates in all the examination centres who were already fine-tuning plans to perpetrate frauds in connivance with their mentors.

Onimago, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Lamidi Alabi, stressed that the state government had zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

“Not only have we put in place active measures to prevent and detect collusion among agents of irregularities, appropriate sanctions have been lined up to address any incidence of examination malpractice,” he said.

The commissioner also commended WAEC for collaborating with the state government in foisting a regime of sanity, discipline and fair play in the conduct of examinations.

He said that the collaboration would serve to promote government's vision and further enhance its concerted efforts on the mission of repositioning education in the state.

Onimago reiterated the commitment of the state government to the welfare of its workers, noting that salaries and promotion of civil servants were now steady and regular.

He said that the government would continue to reward commitment and exemplary performance by the teachers.

In her address, the WAEC Branch Controller, Mrs Zita Unegbu, said the forum was designed for principals of schools that had been cleared for the May/June 2013 examinations.

She said the forum would enable WAEC staff, ministry of education officials and principals to exchange ideas and to remind them of the things to do for the proper conduct of the examinations.(NAN)
