Dilapidated Bridge: Residents Decry Neglect as Bridge Collapses in Kwara
Following an appeal made by the residents of pipe-line and gaa-akanbi area of Ilorin Kwara state over the dilapidating condition of the bridge in the area, the pipe-line bridge has partly collapsed causing a major traffic gridlock.
It will be recalled that residents of the area had earlier made the appeal while speaking with Royal times recently over the impending danger the bridge poses for commuters in the area.
"I hope the Kwara state road maintenance agency (KWARMA) can now find a lasting solution to this collapse as it has now become impassable for all," Femi Badru, a shop owner close to the bridge said.
Another resident of the area Chief Olakunle Usman expressed his displeasure and wondered why the relevant agency of government had not taken a proactive measure before the eventual collapse, "top government official ply this bridge on a daily basis and yet we have seen nothing done, with this present development, I hope this bridge will be reconstructed," he added.
The Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA) through its general manager Engineer Usman Jubril had earlier reiterated the commitment of his agency to continually renovate and reconstruct dilapidating bridges and roads in Kwara state adding that the present development on Pipeline Bridge will soon be a thing of the past as the agency is moving apace to repair the bridge.
