Kwara Govt. to Rehabilitate Arandun-Ipetu-Aran-Orin Road for N1.5bn

Date: 2013-04-04

The Kwara Government has awarded a N1.5 billion contract for the rehabilitation of the 30 kilometre Arandun-Ipetu-Aran-Orin road in Kwara South Senatorial District.

Kwara Commissioner for Finance Demola Banu, said this on Wednesday at the congress of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Irepodun Local Government Area.

He said the the rehabilitation of the road was part of the state government’s Rural Road Rehabilitation Project.

"Also to be rehabilitated by the administration of Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed is the Oro township road to boost commercial and economic activities within the district.

"It is government’s hope that the rehabilitation of the roads, when completed, would ease the smooth flow of traffic and reduce incessant crashes on our roads," he said.

The commissioner said the rehabilitation had been scheduled to be completed before the end of the year, adding that the contractors had been mobilised to meet up with the deadline.

"The good news is that the contractors have been mobilised to commence work in earnest so that majority of the rehabilitation work would have been covered before the rain starts fully," Banu said.

The commissioner reiterated government’s commitment towards executing projects that would impact meaningfully on the living standard of the people, especially at the grassroots.

He listed other ongoing community-based projects as the provision of modern equipment and ambulances at general hospitals in the state that were under renovation.

Others, he said, included the state-owned International Vocational skills Centre in Ajase-Ipo and projects for the Millennium Development Goals spread across the local government areas.

Banu said the governor also approved an increase in the monthly allocations for developmental projects across the 16 local governments from N100 million to N200 million starting from next month.

"These projects, which include sinking of boreholes as well as provision of chairs and furniture and other equipment at schools, are being handled by indigenous contractors," he said.
