Date: 2012-03-13

The Kwara State Governor,Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed, has advocated for the establishment of state and local government police force to handle minor and civil cases.According to governor Ahmed, the establishment of the state police force became necessary in order to redefine roles of Federal Police to enable it to live up to expectations.

Ahmed who made the suggestion while speaking with journalists in Ilorin, the kwara state capital, said''with the establishment of the state police and local police force, the federal government will be able to focus on the federal police force''.

He also condemned those who are advocating for National Conference, saying the idea was uncalled for.Ahmed argued that the call,if successful, was capable of undermining the current democratic process and the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan. The governor maintained that representative at the National Assembly were capable of raising issues affecting their people.

He further explained that setting up another parallel conference to discuss issues affecting Nigerians was unnecessary since, according to him, there is a National Assembly in place.
