2 Nabbed Over Corpses' Clothes, Human Parts
Two persons were on Thursday arrested in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital while allegedly attempting to cart away decayed body parts and clothes of buried corpses for ritual purposes.
The suspects were arrested by residents around Ajia compound in Gambari area of the town.
They were said to have seized the opportunity of a new road being constructed between Bolanta junction and Gambari in the area to embark on the illegal act.
It was further learnt that because the road construction affects some graves in Ajia compound, relatives of the dead were reportedly exhuming the corpses for re-burial.
The suspects, who were said not to be members of the compound, however, reportedly took advantage of this situation to exhume corpses and remove their parts and clothes.
A bag containing body parts and clothes of corpses was recovered from one of the arrested suspects.
The suspect, simply identified as Saka, was reportedly selling second-hand clothes in the Bolanta area of the town.
It took the intervention of the elders of the area to save the suspects from being lynched by the angry crowd. They were reportedly handed over to the police at the ‘C’ Division, Oja-Oba.
Police public relations officer in the state, Olufemi Fabode, confirmed the incident.
