KWSG spends N2.7m on farm implements

Date: 2013-05-27

Kwara government has spent N2.7 million to procure farm implements for farmers in the state since 2007.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Bode Olayemi, disclosed this in an interview on Saturday in Ilorin.
He said the government placed high priority on agriculture and was ready to assist farmers in the procurement of seedlings for increased productivity.
He said that 120 cows were inseminated with exotic breed semen in order to produce crossbreeds that mature early.
Olayemi said the government had also established three sites in the state for artificial insemination of cattle.
He listed the sites as Gaa Osibi, Gbugbu and Gida Magajia in Ilorin South, Edu and Baruten local government areas respectively.
The commissioner said three farmers from each of the three local government areas would be trained on artificial insemination.
He said that after the training, the farmers would be equipped with necessary facilities to operate, adding that 15 cattle farmers had presented 94 of their cows for artificial insemination.
Olayemi expressed the hope that cattle farmers in the state would soon get high returns from their cows.
He urged other cattle farmers to take their cows for insemination.
