Group condemns dynasty rule in Kwara

Date: 2013-06-24

A Pressure group, known as the Kwara Leadership Caucus, KLC, has condemned the current state of governance in Kwara State, insisting that it will work to destroy the Saraki dynasty.

The group which described the present situation in the state as ‘slavery’ said Kwara has been reduced to a laughing stock across the country.

Rising from its meeting in Abuja over the weekend, the group, comprising eminent citizens from the state, said enough is enough to the over bearing hegemony of the Saraki dynasty in the state.

Addressing journalist after the meeting, special adviser to the president on ethics and values, Sarah Jubril said it was disheartening that over the years Kwara has become a laughing stock.

She said that education which used to be the biggest industry in Kwara is fast fading away.

Jubril referred to the presidential candidate of National Transformation Party, NTP, in the 2011 election, John Dara, who also said the time for change in the state has come because the state has wallowed in deprivation for too long.

He added that the caucus, as a platform for all concerned citizens of Kwara State, believes that the standard of governance and pace of development in Kwara State is not impressive and that there is a lot of room for improvement.

According to Jubril, “It is known all over the world that there is a chronic misrepresentation of democracy in Kwara State.

“We need the real definition of leadership in the state so that we can tell the coming generation that we cannot continue with this kind of enslavement concept of leadership. It is completely an insult to the dignity of Kwara State people and of humanity”.

Reacting to a question on the dominance of the Saraki family, Sara said the family will be swept aside if it refuses to buy into the liberation sought in the state.

She noted that “this movement will surely widen the democratic space and the so called dynasty could be accommodated if they appreciate that the time is now for that change, but if they think the old order would be sustained, obviously they will lose out in the process.
