Army to train vigilante on peace management

The Nigerian Army would train the Vigilante on crime management, control and peace maintenance
The Chairman of the Kwara State Security Vigilante Operative (KSSVO), Prince (Alh) Nasirudeen Alebiosu disclosed this during a workshop organised for the men and  officers of the group in Ilorin at the weekend.

He said "every arrangement has been concluded by the KSSVO to engage the Nigerian Army 22 Battalion,Sobi, Ilorin to provide training for the members of KSSVO at the Army barrack"

The workshop which was held in partnership with Osjones International Service LTD, explained that the development would enhance the professionalism of the security operatives.
He also said the training would strengthen the relationship between the Vigilante and the Army.

The chairman advised all the participants at the workshop to take the seminal very serious,adding that it would assist them in their day-to-day activities.

He however appealed to the state government to assist the Vigilante with all the necessary supports to enhance its operations in the state.

He mentioned that prevailing unity among security operatives in the state has resulted into many achievements especially in the area of crime reduction across the state


One of the resource person at the workshop with the theme,"The Role and Relevance of Security Vigilante Operatives in Kwara State Security System"the Brigade Commandant,22 Bdb Sobi, Brig Gen Idris Muhammed noted that the vigilante is the brain behind the reduction of crime in the state.


The Commandant who was represented by Lt Col Adamu Abdul, told the vigilante to consider itself as a partner with all other national security agencies
The state Police Commissioner,Mr Agboola Oshodi Glover explained that the largest groups of Vigilante in Nigeria are made of neighbourhood vigilante groups,"a strong and popular force in community security.


"This is spread toward one group on virtually every street corner in lower-income neighbourhood and rural community throughout the nation"


He said in spite of the effort of the government to reduce crime ,Nigeria continue to have difficult and dangerous forms of security challenges.


He submitted that to ensure Vigilante groups are obeying due process,procedure and the rule of law ,"we in the police have started a process of registering with both the local police division and local government levels and issuing an identification cards".


The State commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), Mr Yerima Gana told the people of the state to always make the necessary enquiry before renting out accommodation.


He said this will assist the security operative to monitor crime in a particular area.


Gana also appealed to the people in the state to always provide the security operatives useful information that would assist them to check the activities of the criminals.

He commended the leadership of the Vigilante for putting up the workshop,saying that it would go a long way in improving the performances of the Vigilante in the state.


One of the participants,Tunde Ajagun thanked the KSSVO for organising the programme,appealed that such training should be organised at least twice a year


He also urged the state government to fully absorb the vigilante into its security body with financial and other benefits
