Kwara Governor Pledges Implementation Of Contributory Pension Scheme
The Governor of Kwara state, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has assured that the state would soon commence the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) as stipulated in the new pension Act by the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
The governor's assurance is coming at a point when criticism is heightening over the state government's reluctance to abide by the provisions of the law.
Speaking at the official opening of the Kwara office of the PenCom in Ilorin, the governor said the scheme would kick off as soon the bill is passed by the state House of Assembly. The Ilorin office was the second to be inaugurated among the commission's zonal offices in the six geo-political zones of the country.
The head of corporate communications, PenCom, Emeka Onuora, said in a statement that the first regional office was inaugurated in Calabar to serve the South-south zone.
Governor Ahmed, while inaugurating the office, commended PenCom for opening the North Central office, adding that the initiative would remove the need for people from the zone travelling to Abuja for pension matters.
"Kwara State government had concluded arrangements for the take-off of the CPS in the state once the bill was passed into law by the state assembly," he assured.
The PenCom embarked on the establishment of zonal offices in all the six geo-political zones of the country in a bid to decentralise its activities and bring it closer to the contributors and retirees.
