Crisis Hits Kwara United over Four Different Management Team

Date: 2013-08-04

There is a serious management crisis in the camp of Kwara United over who controls the Ilorin Premier League side.

Investigations revealed that only recently, the management board of the club led by Barrister Bamidele Aluko was queried by a fact finding committee set up by the government to look into the finances of the club.

The query, according to sources, was borne out of wranglings amongst the board members over funds released to the team.

The new committee which is headed by the Chief Of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Toyin Sanusi consequently stripped the board of the financial control of the team and immediately assumed functions and took charge of the team through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

The new set-up comprises of the Chief of Staff as Chairman, Commissioner for Works and Transport, Commissioner for Finance, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development and the club's accountant as members.

Meanwhile, a team of another management headed by the Team Manager, Agboola Ibrahim Basambo, with the Technical Adviser, Samson David Unuanel, the accountant and the club secretary are involved in the day to day running of the club.

Another team of the management was said to have sprung up headed by the Special Assistant on Sports, Alhaji Suleiman Toyin Olokooba, with some loyal board members and staff as well as the supporters and fans club executives under his control.

Fans and supporters of the club have called on Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed to urgently intervene in the looming crisis in order to save the club from going down.

Some of the fans noted that the club is making waves in the Premier League, being amongst the top five teams, and that the present crisis might negatively affect the performances of the state team.

There is also the fear that the club may fall under the hammer of the League Management Company, LMC, as government officials are, by the league rules, not allowed in the management of clubs.

Efforts to get the media officer of the club, Ajide Olushola Olayioye proved abortive as he was said to be attending a seminar outside the state.

An inside source who pleaded anonymity confirmed the development and hinted that the new order by the Chief Of Staff has secured new buses for the club as well as payment of arrears of bonuses for players and officials.

He, however, expressed fear that the on-going power tussle may affect the aspiration of the club to get a continental ticket at the end of the season.
