Kwara govt to open up rural areas with new roads.
Kwara State government is to commence the construction of new roads in the state immediately after the completion of all ongoing road projects.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr Amuda Kannike disclosed this in Ilorin while speaking with newsmen recently.
Dr Kannike said the government would embark on the extension of the road that would link the new Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Ilorin with Oke-Ose, another bye-pass would be opened linking University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), construction of Offa-Ojoku Road, Kaiama Road and Lafiagi, Patigi township road.
According to him, when completed, it would create easy access and open roads to industrial and mining sites, as well as providing easy movement of goods and services.
He also explained that all ongoing road projects across the state would be completed soon as most of them had reached over 80 per cent completion stage, while indigenous contractors whose job he described as impressive were being paid their outstanding debts.
Dr Kannike disclosed that the cargo terminal which is about to be completed would open new opportunities in cargo, transportation and customs businesses thereby boosting the revenue of the state.
The commissioner said since the Harmony Holdings had taken over the operations of Kwara Express and the Train Mass Transit, the two companies had been performing well, while more coaches would soon be purchased to improve the rail sector.
On the Aviation College, Dr Kannike revealed that the first set of pilots would be graduating soon, while new hostel buildings would be built for the college, stressing that the state government recently acquired two new aircrafts for the college.
Kannike, who described politics as not a do or die affair or a game of winner takes all, commended the leadership qualities of the state governor, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed and Senator Bukola Saraki whom he described as selfless leaders and appealed to Kwarans to continue to support.
