The Chairman, Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission,  Dr. Uthman  Ajidagba, on Tuesday said the commission would hold elections into the offices of the Chairman and councilors in Offa Local Government of Kwara State on Saturday, August 31.

He said during a press conference in Ilorin that this was in compliance with the judgment of the High Court of Kwara State on February 22, 2013, and another order of the court of July 23, 2013.

He stated that this was contained  in the  judgment of the appeal on suit No. KWS/LGET/2A/2012 between the Action Congress vs Abdulwaheed Olanipekun and 98 others,  which ordered fresh election into the office of the Offa LG chairman.

Ajidagba  said the commission had no right to disqualify any candidate.  He added that the former Chairman of Offa LG, Mr. Saheed Popoola, and any party registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission had the right to stand for the election, including the newly registered All Progressives Congress.
