An Ilorin Magistrates' Court on Monday remanded a 25-year-old father, Muritala Elemosho, for allegedly killing his nine-month old son, Qudus Elemosho.

The accused was alleged to have murdered and buried the child, who was on admission at the Children Specialist Hospital Centre, Igboro, Ilorin, on Aug. 12.

The Prosecuting Police Officer, Mr Elijah Abegunde, told the court that the accused was requested to take the child for a PVC test at the hospital's laboratory when he sneaked out of the hospital with him.

He said that the father later killed and buried the child without the knowledge of the hospital management.

"The accused callously killed his son for no just cause and hurriedly buried him,'' he said, adding that investigation into the issue was ongoing.

He urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending the completion of investigation.

He said the accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code.

The Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Dasuki,  in his ruling, ordered the remand of the accused in Mondala Prison Yard, Ilorin and  adjourned the case to Sept. 20 for mention.(NAN)
