Talks with Presidency may broker peace -Ahmed

Date: 2013-09-03

Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, yesterday justified the formation of a parallel faction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to which he belongs to. He was, however, hopeful that the ongoing consultations with the Presidency may assuage the situation.

Ahmed, while fielding questions from newsmen at the Ilorin International Airport, on arrival from Abuja, said that the aggrieved members of the party had no other option than to protest the goings-on in the party with a view to correct what was going wrong.

He, however, said that as a mark of respect to the Presidency, machineries of talks and consultations are on-going to resolve the feud.

He pleaded with party members across the country, particularly those in Kwara State to remain calm, promising that they would be kept informed from time to time about the developments on the matter.

Reacting to the controversial announcement of the result of the re-run Offa Local Government election at the weekend, Governor Ahmed said the result had simply shown that the PDP government in the state had put in place election victory machinery which had been put to test for subsequent elections in the state.

He said that there had always been a political structure in the state that never go to the poll and failed, pointing out that what happened in the council poll in Offa was attestation of this.
