Spare part dealers held over stolen vehicle
Two vehicle spare part dealers at popular Ipata-Oloje Spare Part Market, Ilorin, Ganiyu Omoowo, 35 of Oloje Garage and Abiodun Alege, 20 of No. 10, Agbooba Street both in Ilorin, Kwara State, have been dragged before an Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court over an alleged stolen car.
The accused had appeared before the court on a two-count charge of theft and receiving stolen properties. The offences contravene Sections 287 and 317 of Penal Code Law.
Police arrested the accused following a tip-off at Control Room ‘B’ OPS, State Headquarters, Ilorin, that a Honda Accord 86 model with registration number PLATEAU AE 46 SHD belonging to Pastor Igho A. John of No. 7, Police Road, GRA, Ilorin, was stolen from where it was packed.
Upon the strength of the information, detectives from ‘G’ Division, Ilorin, traced the vehicle to Ipata-Oloje Spare Part Market, Ilorin and allegedly recovered the vehicle in possession of Alege (second accused), who claimed to have bought the vehicle from Omoowo (first accused).
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, revealed that Omoowo (first accused) could not explain how he came about the vehicle, while Alege (second accused) is liable for the offence of receiving stolen property, having paid the sum of N50,000 at the time he was arrested.
