Group raises alarm over decayed infrastructure in Kwara

Date: 2016-10-03

A Non-Governmental Association, Organizing for Kwara Political Action Group yesterday raised an alarm over deplorable state of infrastructure in Kwara State.

Addressing a press conference in Ilorin to herald the unveiling of its office, the convener of the group, Mr Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, disclosed that the state government had received over One Trillion Naira in the last 13 years without justification for it has been able to achieve.

He queried the veracity of the ongoing water reticulation project, which he started during the administration of former Governor Bukola Saraki and yet to be completed by the present administration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Ajia, who spoke through the state Coordinator of the group, Mr Ibrahim Jimoh, said it the time has ripe for Kwarans to actively engage themselves in the ways and manners the state is run.

The convener also challenged the youths to resist being induced by those he called 'Used and Dumped" politicians who are only interested in feathering their own nests.

He said the group was ready to work with any Kwaran who share its belief in regime change in the state through a peaceful democratic means.

"Between Abdulfatah Ahmed and Bukola Saraki, how is it possible that the water reticulation projects across many parts of Kwara are still moribund? Our general hospitals and primary health care centres are grossly understaffed and underfunded, all levels of education in Kwara are in shambles and our workers are not getting paid regularly (especially in the last three years).

"Between the two administrations, Kwara has collected over a Trillion Naira and it beggar's belief that we are in this deplorable situation.

"Today, we are drawing a line in the sand and taking an important first step towards the successful institutionalization of democracy in Kwara State through a people-driven, participatory and inclusive decision making organisation such as we are unveiling today.

"Organizing for Kwara Political Action Group is opened to all Kwarans from all walks of life. We are non-partisan and ready to work with anyone from any or no political background, our litmus test is that such individuals must share our belief in regime change in Kwara through a peaceful democratic means.

"We have set for ourselves the ambitious goal of working with every man and woman of conscience in Kwara towards organizing for change. We hope that when we celebrate Kwara's 52nd anniversary that we do so under a new government sworn to uphold and preserve our commonwealth", Ajia said.

Also speaking, Chairman of the group, Mr Dare Mustapha, enjoined the youth to take own destinies in their hands in order to prepare for the future.
