Opinion - Gbemi Saraki: Where Hath Thou? By Abdul Abdul

No doubt, we are in a strange but interesting time; strange because all manner of funny characters are parading themselves as 'stakeholders', bragging and polluting our precious airspace with their foul mouths; interesting because there is a growing alignment and re-alignment among the political class that leaves you to wonder whether we are actually going to get more of governance than politics yet again. This much has spurred the question; where is Gbemi Saraki in this whole game?

What I know is that the political equation in the state and of course the country wouldn't be complete without the imprimatur of the lady Saraki. Although pundit has it that she is hibernating somewhere in Maitama, dubbed one of the most expensive Abuja residential areas; dining and winning with the high and mighty in and around the Aso Villa, but there is no better place for Gbemi Saraki to 'show face' other than Ilorin, her home town.

However, for the purpose of full disclosure, I must declare at the onset that I'm no fan of the Sarakis. I'm saying this without an iota of apology to anybody. I lost the remaining vestige of respect (if any) I had for the family with the demise of their patriarch. And with Bukola Saraki now grandstanding as the heir apparent, making a false claim to 'leadership' in the state, it's almost impossible for the likes of me to make a handshake across the Saraki divides (pardon the sarcasm). Even with Gbemi Saraki, with her urbane, humane and naturally lively postures, there is hardly anything serious I can have with the Sarakis. Though she is a little more level headed and humble, and she is far more loved and respected than the other arrogant, good-for-nothing lot, but the blood and gene she carries is enough barriers between us both!

But much as I hate to like her, I believe that the lull being currently witnessed in the political realm in the state is because the likes of Gbemi Saraki have taken a flight. I'm double sure that the endless empty noise of Mr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, Atunwa and their gang would have been put in proper check had Gbemi Saraki's no-nonsense approach not being missing in action. And please don't tell that I said this; even Bukola Saraki could hardly stand Gbemi Saraki, that's why he is most likely going to be at home with a Gbemi Saraki stuck somewhere abroad than in Ilorin. But how cool would it be to have the firebrand Amazon ruffling feathers down here?

So GbemiSaraki, where hath thou? Ilorin is sure missing you!
