Members of a five-man robbery gang were on Tuesday remanded by an Ilorin magistrate court. The gang was arrested in connection with the murder of one Adewumi Ariyo.

The accused; Adewumi Kayode, Abiodun Ojulari, Akeem Afolabi, Omoloye Seun and Olatide Oladipo were alleged to have shot Ariyo who was an Ilorin based medical doctor.

Adewumi 44, working as a dentist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) was gunned down by the gang on Thursday 18th of april, 2013 at his basin residence which was the scene of the robbery.

After the arrest of the suspects, they were arraigned on a four count charge of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, culpable homicide and belonging to gang of brigands contrary to Section 6 (B) and 1, 2 of armed robbery and firearms (special provision) Act CAP RII, law of Federation of Nigeria and section 221 and 205 of penal code. According to police
prosecutor inspector Karimu Jimoh, investigation revealed that the suspected carted away a Honda car valued at N1.8 million belonging to the deceased’s wife.

He added that the armed gang also stole two blackberry phones worth N95,000, six mobile phones valued at N80, 000, Samsung galaxy phone worth N80,000 and a plasma TV valued at N130, 000.
According to him, the suspects also stole women jewellery worth N300, 000 and a complete sonny sound system valued at N85, 000. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge.
