House orders investigation of KWARTMA's operations
The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday mandated its Committee on Energy, Works and Transport to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the operations of the state road traffic management authority (KWARTMA).
The committee, according to the Deputy Speaker, Prof. Mohammed Gana Yisa who presided over the plenary, has one month to submit its report.
The House gave a directive after considering the report of the same committee on a matter of general public importance raised by a member representing Omupo, Hon. Moshood Bakare on indiscriminate parking of vehicles along Coca-cola Asa-Dam road and a petition titled "KWARTMA and its immediate challenges".
The parliament directed Coca-cola Bottling Company and Seven-up Bottling that allegedly involves in indiscriminate parking of both articulated and other types of vehicles on the road along Asa-Dam Coca-cola road to desist with immediate effect.
The House also ordered KWARTMA to enforce the directive and monitor compliance with immediate effect.
In another development, the Assembly has urged Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of the state to release fund for the purchase and installation of a 33KVA transformer for the use of Custom GRA community in Ilorin, the state capital.
The plea was the only recommendation on the report of House Committee Energy, Works and Transport presented by its chairman, Hon. Moshood Bakare on a petition titled "Appeal/application for a 33KVA transformer" written by residents of Customs GRA, Yidi area, Ilorin.
The committee observed that the community is dependent on the customs service transformer and as the practice, Customs Service is responsible for the maintenance of their transformer and could at will, deny the community the use of the transformer.
Meanwhile, the House has adjourned sitting till 29th October, 2013.
