Kwara PDP Remains Indivisible- Fulani

Date: 2013-10-16

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State yesterday insisted that the party remained one indivisible entity in the state.

The state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Isola Balogun Fulani, made the clarification during an interview with journalists in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to him, "Those claiming to be pro-Bamanga Tukur-led PDP challenging the primary for the selection of its candidates for the October 26 local government election are faceless."

It would be recalled that some aggrieved chairmanship aspirants believed to be loyalists of Tukur on Thursday last week, filed a case at the Federal High Court in Ilorin, challenging the modus operandi for selecting/electing the chairmanship candidates at the primary.

The chairman said: "We read in the newspapers that some aggrieved members of our party took us to court challenging the conduct of our local government primary election. To our surprise, up till now, nobody has served us the court notice.

"As a party, anything we do here is done in accordance with the constitution of the PDP and the primary was conducted in accordance with the constitution of our party. The national headquarters was informed about the primary and they sent some members down here to witness the primary and thereafter, they also sent in appeal panel."

Fulani stressed that: "When the panel members came they received no complaints from any quarters concerning our primary.

"The panel members had gone back with their report certifying that the conduct of the primary was peaceful and fair.

"So are we even sure that the people that went to court are members of our party or members of other party?"

"As far as we are concerned there are no aggrieved members of PDP in the state. PDP is one in the state because if there were aggrieved members, the primary that was conducted won’t be peaceful."

He added that: "According to the constitution of our party, aggrieved members are expected to first of all report their grievances to the party not the law court. All avenues must have been explored before heading to the court.

"We are confident that the October 26 local government election will hold as there is no court injunction restraining the state Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) from conducting the election.

"More so, it is specifically stated in the Electoral Act that no court can stop any election or any primary of any political party. None of those reported to be aggrieved members has neither complained to the PDP. national, state or local government levels."
