Gov Ahmed Receives Centenary Book

Date: 2013-10-25

Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed on Thursday in Ilorin, received the state's Centenary Book from the committee formed to compile the book.

Making the presentation to the governor, the Chairman of the Centenary Book Committee, Prof. Sheu  Jimoh said the book attempts to situate Kwara within the centenary history of Nigeria covering the period between 1914 and 2014.

According to him,  the Centenary Book project was meant to "serve the motivation stemmed from the belief that if we do not know where we are coming from and where we are going, we cannot assess how far we have travelled."

He suggested that a centenary committee be setup at the state level to showcase the achievements, and hoped that the original concept behind the centenary book project would be pursued to its logical conclusion to enhance mutual understanding among various nationalities brought together to form the Nigerian nation.

Receiving the book, the Governor, Dr Ahmed observed that understanding religion, culture and tolerance among the multi-cultural groups in Nigeria was the only platform that could foster a strong nation devoid of any acrimony and sentiment among the people.

"I am delighted that the committee produced a first class book that reflects the state and its people. We shall make it available to major stakeholders in the state and in the diaspora," Governor Ahmed said.

The Centenary Book contains 15 chapters which deals with the birth of the nation, the circumstances surrounding the creation of Kwara state, the political development of Kwara, the evolution of civil service and governance structured and Local Government system and traditional institution among others.
