Amidst Controversies, Baraje-led PDP declared winner of Kwara LG Elections

Amidst controversies surrounding yesterday’s local government election in Kwara State, Kwasiec Chairman, Dr. Uthman Ajidagba has declared the factional Peoples Democratic Party, otherwise known as the ‘New PDP’ candidates as the winners of the elections in the 15 local government areas. The result was officially declared thin morning at the commission headquarters.

The Kwara LG poll has been marred with controversies where Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-Led did not field their candidates for the election, thereby announced the boycott of the election. In similar vein, the All Progressives Congress has also question the credibility of the election in court, which it eventually loss. APC did not contest the election as well.

It will be recalled that Kwara state is being governed by one of the splinter governors loyal to Alhaji Kawu Baraje-led Peoples Democratic Party, Gov Abdul-Fatai Ahmed.

Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been declared winners in all the 15 chairmanship seats and 181 councillorship seats in the October 26 local government election held in the state.

The Chairman of the Kwara Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), Dr. Uthman Ajidagba, announced the result at the commission’s headquarters this morning.

According to the Chairman, the party’s chairmanship candidate in Asa Local Government, Mallam Saka Obalana polled 43,748; his counterpart in Baruten Local Government, Mohammed Bio scored 76,478;

Alhaji Abubakar TShonga of Rdu Local Government scored 61,291; while his counterpart for Ekiti Local Government Council, Akintoba Fatigun got 23,888.

The party’s candidate for Ifelodun Local Government, Babatunde Salami scored 74,299; and his counterpart for IIorin East Local Government, Abdul Lateef Okandeji polled 89,416.

Usman Ebedi, the party’s candidate for IIorin South LG scored 63,267; while his counterpart for IIorin West Local Government, Tajudeen Zulu-Oloje polled 129,885.

The party’s candidate’s for Irepodun Local Government, Lukman Owolewa, scored 41,187; and the candidate for Isin Local Government, Moruf Thanni got 21,144.

The party’s flag bearer for Kaima Local Goverment, Alhassan Bagudu scored 43,747; while Abdul Ganiyu Ajibola of Moro Local Goverrnment polled 46,493.

The party’s candidate for Oke-Ero Local Government, Aminat Yusuf got 23,957; while his counterpart for Oyun Local Government, Jimoh Alao scored 34,783 and Uthman Mohammed of Patigi Local Government polled 36,294.

Ajidagba did not however disclosed the scores of the 181 councillorship candidates of the party in the election.

The KWASIEC Chairman expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, royal fathers, the media and the people of the state for their support which brought about the succesful conduct of the election.
